He was the son  prince Arjuna and princess Subhadra. He is said to be an avatar  of  the son of Chandra.  Abhimanyu was brought up by his maternal uncle - Lord Krishna, as his father was sent on an exile for 13 years.  One interesting fact described in Mahabharata about Abhimanyu is that when he was in his mother Subhadra's womb he learned the Chakraviyugam entry technique explained by Arjuna.  CHAKRAVYUGH: Chakravyuh is a war formation done in ancient times. It is also called Padmavyuha . It is a military formation used in the Hindu epic Mahabharata. It resembles a labyrinth of multiple defensive walls. It was very difficult to crack it and the method to crack this technique was mainta
