The Science Behind Holi!!
Holi is a must-to-be celebrated festival!!
Holi is an Indian festival of colors. It is celebrated to symbolize the death of a demoness named Holika. This festival is celebrated in March which signifies a seasonal shift from winter to summer. This season signifies the highest risk of disease spread. This festival is celebrated by applying colors to others and by setting up a bonfire and circumambulating it with dance and songs. And now it's time to see the hidden science in celebrating Holi.
The drift from winter to summer during march month creates a greater drift in our health. This leads to greater temperature change in our body which causes various diseases and also facilitates disease spread. And this is the time when Chickenpox, typhoid, and food poisoning spreads commonly. Holi is celebrated to avoid this kind of disease spreading.

We celebrate Holi by applying colors to others and by circumambulating bonfires. The temperature of an atmosphere near a bonfire will be about 40°C to 50°C which will destroy the surrounding microorganisms in the atmosphere. This also leads to the release of a large amount of sweat from our body that exerts internal microorganisms of our body which provides immense benefits to us.
Next is the application of color powders on others. Presently we are using synthetic and chemically hazardous chemicals. But our ancestors made color powders from natural substances like turmeric, kumkum, dried flowers, dried leaves, etc.
All these natural substances have antimicrobial properties which help in keeping our body away from microbes. And these substances also enhance our skin health. In some parts of India, people apply the ash collected from the bonfire onto others. Applying ash to our bodies plays a major role in regulating sweat and removing sweat blocks. To cure sweat block body should be exposed to high temperature which occurs near the bonfire. This plays a major role in regulating our body temperature during summer.
The main of the festival Holi is to make our bodies adaptable to the seasonal shift from winter to summer. And this also plays a major role in preventing diseases to be caused during that period.
Wishing you all a colorful and happy Holi!!!
